Leachville

Floyd "Pete" Selby Jr., 81, of Leachville, died Sunday, April 29, 2007, at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro. A lifelong Leachville resident, he was the son of the late Floyd and Nora Hedrick Selby and was a 1943 graduate of Leachville High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served with Company F 343rd of the 86th Infantry Division in the European and Pacific Theaters and received numerous decorations and citations including the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. Following the war he earned a masters degree in mathematics from the University of Arkansas. He retired from the Leachville Public Schools in 1988 after teaching mathematics for 35 years. He was known by his students as a man with a genuine thirst for knowledge and a desire to educate. He was a longtime member of the Leachville First Baptist Church where he was active in the choir for many years.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Jane Holt Selby, of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Terry Len and Terrie Laraye Selby of Jonesboro; a granddaughter, Ann Marie Selby, of Jonesboro; a brother, Bud Selby of Leachville; and a sister, Marjorie Cole, also of Leachville.

The funeral was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Howard Funeral Service Chapel in Leachville with Dr. Jimmy Anderson officiating. Burial was in the Leachville Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Joe Hultquist, Spencer Selby, Hugh Wayne Walpole, Tony Simpson, James Ramer, and Toby Selby.

Honorary pallbearers were Company F 343rd Infantry and the Leachville First Responders Unit.
