Bennie Alton, "B.A." McCann, 97, of Manila died Thursday, Feb. 8, 2007, at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro. Born at Fordyce, he was a retired farmer and businessman. He was a longtime Manila area resident, was a retired farmer and landowner and was a member of the Manila First Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda Allene McCann, a grandson, Bennie Alton McCann, III, and two great-grandchildren, Avery and Bryant Johnson.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Mary Louise Parks McCann, of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Bennie and Pat McCann of Helena, and Keith and Gerry McCann of Manila; a daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Don Speck of Helena; two brothers, Elton McCann of Jacksonville, Texas, and L.C. "Buddy" of Bartlett, Tenn.; a sister, Audrey Rousseau of Jacksonville, Texas; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

The funeral was held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Manila with burial in Dogwood Cemetery in Blytheville.

Pallbearers were Jeff McCann, Kenneth Moss, Keith McCann II, Jason Duffel, Jeremy Speck and Charles Johnson.
