Buckeye

Barbara Jane DeRousse Doherty, 60, of the Buckeye Community died Dec. 7, 2006, after a brief illness. She was born on Nov. 16, 1946, to the late Tom and Opal Shipley DeRousse of Hornersville, Mo. Mrs. Doherty was a lifelong area resident and member of New Providence Baptist Church of Buckeye. She worked for many years as a registered nurse and was the charge nurse at the Denton Regional Medical Hospital in Denton, Texas. Before returning back to Northeast Arkansas as a homemaker she worked as a charge nurse in a retirement home in Pilot Point, Texas.

Survivors include her husband of 41 years, Larry Doherty of Buckeye; four sons, Kenny Brown and wife, Joli, of Lawrenceville, Ga., Casey Doherty and wife, Trisa, of Krum, Texas, Paul Doherty and wife, Michelle, of Aubrey, Texas, Shannon Doherty of Aubrey, Texas; a brother, Larry DeRousse of Cummings, Ga., six sisters, Ruby Prince of Hornersville, Mo., Louise Branham of Poplar Bluff, Mo., Lavonda Hill of Manila, Virginia Smith of Manila, Patricia Fortson of Hornersville, Mo., Rosalee Metheny of Blytheville; eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a grandson, Shawn Brown.

The funeral was held at 1 p.m. Monday at New Providence Baptist Church in Buckeye with Rev. Danny Smith officiating. The family received visitors from 11 a.m. until service time at the church. Burial was at Woodland Heights Cemetery in Rector with Faith Funeral Service of Manila in charge of arrangements.
