Harold Dale Chipman

Harold Dale Chipman, 75, of Manila, died Tuesday, July 19, 2005, at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro. Born at Caraway he was the son of the late John and Ethel Meadows Chipman and was raised south of Manila in the Sixteen Community. He moved to Aurora, Ill., in 1952 where he managed J&L Oil Company. In 1961 he returned to Arkansas. He farmed near Manila and owned and operated Chipman's Tires in Blytheville until his retirement in 1993. He was an avid golfer and attended the New Harmony Baptist Church near Manila.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by an infant son, Harold David Chipman; a sister Geraldine Stull; three brothers C.J. "Hoot" Chipman, J.V. Chipman, and Jerry Chipman.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Helen Bradford Chipman of the home; a son, Joe Chipman and his wife Pam of Manila; three daughters, Revis Blaylock, and husband Dale of Manila, Diane Thornton, and husband John of The Villages, Fla., Patty Booth, and husband Dwight of Manila; three sisters, Jackie "Polly" Johnson of Drasco, Melba Sherrod and Carlene Evans, both of Manila; 18 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were 2 p.m. Friday at the Howard Funeral Service Chapel in Manila with Rev. James Chipman and Rev. John Henson officiating. Burial was in the Manila Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were grandsons, Dale Blaylock, Billy Pember, Robert Chipman, John Booth, Dwight Booth and Chris Davison.

Honorary pallbearers included grandsons, Jessie Fry, Jason Dowdy, Tom Hummell, Scotty Del Watkins, neighbor Don Walls, and his morning golf friends.
