Arvil Lee Smith - Caraway

Arvil Lee Smith, 86, of Caraway died April 12, 2005, at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro.

He was a retired farmer, of the Assembly of God faith, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II where he was wounded in France and received a Purple Heart. He had lived in the Caraway area for 65 years, formerly of Big Flat.

He is survived by two sisters and a brother-in-law, Ruby Wilkins of Jonesboro and Barbara and Coy Busby of Bakersfield, Mo.; five brothers and three sisters-in-law, Arlis and Marie Smith of Muncie, Ind., Roy H. Smith of South Holland, Ill., Clarence Smith of Big Flat, James and Roberta Smith of House Springs, Mo., Henry B. and Maxine Smith of Big Flat; and a host of nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Christine Busby Smith, his father and mother, John and Fannie Smith, three brothers, Rufus, Luster, and Joseph G. Smith, and two sisters, Easter Wallace and Ruth Dye.

The funeral was held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Gregg Funeral Home Chapel in Monette with Rev. Jay Cox officiating. Burial was in Caraway Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Arlis Smith, Clarence Smith, James H. Smith, Henry B. Smith, Albert Busby and Chad Sneed.
