Edward Zane "Zeke" Newsom - Caraway

Edward Zane "Zeke" Newsom, 80, of Caraway, died Aug. 26, 2004, at Lakeside Nursing Center in Lake City.

He was a retired truck driver and of the Baptist Faith. He was an U.S. Army Veteran and had lived in the Hancock and Caraway area a lifetime.

He is survived by a sister, Vestal "Betty" Stege of St. Louis, Mo.; two daughters, Sandra Gurley of Marion and Brenda Carter of Benton, Miss.; six grandchildren, Belinda Fugate, Sissy Perriello, Holly Purvis, Joe Gurley, Brandi Carter, and Bradley Newsom; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Steve Newsom.

The funeral was held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Greg Funeral Home Chapel in Monette with Rev. Bob Kinnett officiating. Burial was in the Caraway Cemetery under the direction of Gregg Funeral Home of Monette.

Active pallbearers were Joe Gurley, Joe E. Gurley, Ricky Carter, Hardy Purvis, Jerry Qualls, and Johnny McCord.
