James Eugene "Gene" Tharp Jr. - Monette

James Eugene "Gene" Tharp Jr., 24, of Monette, died Friday, Aug. 27, 2004, near Manila.

He was of the Baptist faith and had lived in the Monette area 14 years, formerly of Jonesboro.

He is survived by his parents, James and Robin Tharp of Monette: his paternal grandmother, Pauline Lamer of Newport, great-grandmother, Ruby Hall of Newport; maternal grandparents, Howard and Ona Billingsley of Jonesboro; two sisters, Misty Thomas of Leachville and Brina Caret of Ft. Laurderdale, Fla.; a brother, Zac Tharp of Monette; two daughters, Shelbye Varner of Jonesboro and McKenzie Wooten of Lake City.

The funeral was held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Gregg Funeral Home Chapel in Monette with Tim Bassing officiating. Burial was in Roberts Cemetery in Franklin under the direction of Gregg Funeral Home of Monette.

Active pallbearers were Andy Fletcher, James Mann, Jason Sercy, Kevin Guiltner, Thomas Littlefield, and Kristin Nuckles. Honorary pallbearers were Nathan Porter, Blaine Tarver and Daniel Strickland.
