William Earnest "Bill" Hook - Lake City

William Earnest "Bill" Hook, 79, of Lake City, died Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003, at St. Bernard's Medical Center in Jonesboro. Born at Little Rock, his family lived at Pleasant Plains before moving to the Eastern District to farm. He retired in the mid-1980's from the position of deputy sheriff for the Eastern District, having held the post from 1959-1986. He was a past recipient of the Jonesboro Exchange Club's Police officer of the Year award. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Monette, a charter member of the Arkansas Sheriff's Association Boys Ranch near Batesville, a member of the Masonic Blue Lodge Number 405 at Lake City and a World War II veteran of Army Air Corps.

Survivors include his wife, Reba Staggs Hook of Lake City; two sons, Gary Hook of Jones, Okla., and Mike Hook of Lake City; a sister, Zlema Carter of Little Rock; six grandchildren, Brad Hook, Bryan Hook, Jamie Hook, Julie Hook Largent, Emilee Hook and Casey Hook; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Billy Don Hook; his parents, Earl and Emma Hook; and four brothers.

The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. today (Tuesday) at First Baptist Church in Monette. Rev. Captain Lovell will officiate. Burial will be in the Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Langford's Funeral Service of Jonesboro.
