Lucille Gorham - Black Oak

Lucille Gorham, 97, of Black Oak died Monday, Feb. 24, 2003, at Craighead Nursing Center in Jonesboro. Born in Holcomb, Mo., she had lived in Black Oak since 1941. She co-owned and managed the Strand Theater in Black Oak for several years. She was the first female railway agent in Arkansas employed by the St. Louis-San Francisco Railway Company when she was appointed as agent in Black Oak after the retirement of her husband. She made and gave away more than 5,000 Bible bookmarks.

Survivors include two sons, Jim Gorham of Memphis and Robert Gorham of Dallas; two daughters, Rosalie Barber and Grovernel Grisham, both of Jonesboro; 11 grandchildren, Chris Barber and Greye Winningham, both of Jonesboro, Allyson Goodin of Wynne, Shea Grisham and Marlo Grisham, both of Nashville, Tenn., Kevin Gorham and Doug Gorham, both of Memphis, Karen Hall of Alabama, Terry Fontenot of Virginia Beach, Vir., Greg Gorham of Dallas and Steve Gorham of Carmel, Calif.; and 20 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Grover Gorham; and three children.

The funeral was held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Gregg Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was private.
