Nannie Louise Newell, 79, of St. Charles, Mo., died Monday, Feb. 17, 2003, at St. Joseph's Hospital in St. Charles, Mo. Born at Manila, she was the daughter of the late Claudie and Maggie Martin Harwell and had been a resident of Tallahassee, Fla., for the past 25 years. She was a retired painter and was a member of the First Baptist Church in St. Peters, Mo., and a member of the Silver Threads Group.

She is survived by a son, Jackie Martin of Irving, Texas; five daughters, Barbara Milner of Bay St. Louis, Miss., Edith Case of Steinhachee, Fla., Diane Meyers of Kalamazoo, Mich., Darlene Patrick of Sardis, Miss., and Donna Walker of St. Peters, Mo.; two sisters, Irene Saban of Warren, Mich., and Gladys Neeley of Pacific, Mo.; 20 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Richard Martin, and two brothers and two sisters.

The funeral was held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Howard Funeral chapel in Manila with Rev. William Piercy officiating. Burial was in the Manila Cemetery.
