Sgt. Larry Folkner - Blytheville

Sgt. Larry Leneer Folkner, 56, of Blytheville died Monday, Nov. 4, 2002, in Brinkley. Born in Monroe, he was a longtime resident of the area and was an Arkansas State Police trooper. Beginning his career in Dumas, he was commissioned as a trooper in 1972. He transferred to Mississippi county in 1973, was promoted to sergeant in 1989, and his last three years of service were with Troop D in Forrest City.

A member of the first ASP special response team, he received a number of honors and awards, including the Valor Award in 1987 for his participation in a hostage situation. He also was featured with Trooper Dewaine Malone in Real Stories of the Highway Patrol TV show. He had planned to retire in July and was of the Baptist belief.

Survivors included his wife, Brenda Bunn Folkner of the home; three daughters, Heahter Folkner of Blytheville and Laurie Folkner and Allison Folkner, both of Jonesboro; and two sisters, Brenda Grizzle of Clarendon and JoAnn Hall of Hunter.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred Jefferson and Georgia Scott Folkner.

The funeral was held at 10 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church in Blytheville wit Rev. Thad Grimstead and Rev. John Lemons officiating.

Arrangements were under the direction of Cobb Funeral Home of Blytheville.

An additional visitation was held Friday afternoon at Bob Neal Funeral Home in Brinkley. Burial was in Oaklawn Cemetery at Brinkley.
