Wada L. Martin - Prophetstown, Ill.

Wada L. Martin, 86, of Prophetstown, Ill., died Friday, Oct. 4, 2002, at Community General Hospital in Sterling, Ill. She was a homemaker, member of Berean Baptist Church, lived in Prophetstown, Ill., nine years formerly of Monette. Mrs. Martin was a member of Foster Grandparents Association where she served as a foster grandmother for the children in the Jefferson School for 12 years.

She is survived by six sons, Burnis Martin of Monette, Troy Martin of Jonesboro, John D. Martin of London, Larry Martin of Center, Ala., Mike Martin of Prenston, Ill., and Mark Martin of Rock Falls, Ill.; three daughters, Bea Smithee and Pat Bridges both of Rock Falls, Ill., and Phyllis Flier of Pekin, Ill.; a sister, Nadine Pettis, of Elm Springs; and a brother Ovie Blassingame of North Little Rock; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Matthew Martin; two grandsons, Toney Wayne Smithee, and Martin D. Smithee: five brothers and four sisters.

The funeral was held at 10 a.m. Monday at Mt. Pleasant General Baptist Church with Rev. Bob Heath officiating. Burial was in Monette Cemetery with Gregg Funeral Home of Monette in charge of arrangements. Her sons served as pallbearers.
