Alvis Garfield Pierce, Jr. - Cardwell

Alvis Garfield Pierce, Jr., 76, of Cardwell died June 12, 2002, at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Blytheville. He was born Feb. 21, 1926 in Minturn, Ark., and was the son of the late Alvis Garfield and Icel Mae Dailey Pierce. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a 32 Degree Mason and Shriner.

Survivors include his wife, Julia Pierce, of Cardwell; a son, Alvis "Sonny" Pierce of Leachville; two daughters, Alice Ann Erickson and husband, Mark, of Sonora, Calif., Rebecca Sue Roberts and husband, Archie, of St. Cloud, Fla.; two brothers, Frank Pierce of Leachville and James Pierce of Arbyrd; five sisters, Mary Pierce Baker of Cardwell, Imogene Young of Trevor, Wis., Patsy Tillman of Jonesboro, Francis Veach of Olympia, Wash., and Lorraine Shapiro of Tangerine, Fla.; six grandchildren, Michael Erickson, Julia Christy, Buddy Iverson, Jason Pierce, Justin and Amy Roberts; two great-grandchildren, Laura and Kristen Christy.

He was preceded in death by a brother, J.C. Pierce.

The funeral was held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 15, at the McDaniel Chapel in Arbyrd with Rev. Denny Brown officiating. Burial was in the Cardwell Cemetery.
