John Lawrence Woodard - Athelstan

John Lawrence Woodard, 89, of Athelstan died Tuesday, June 4, 2002, at Osceola. Born Oct. 29, 1912 in Fayetteville, Tenn., he was a member of the Keiser Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Ola Mae Woodard of Athelstan; a daughter, Betty Lawrence Woodard Alexander of Wilson; a sister, Evelyn Hughes of Manila; eight grandchildren, William Jackson Alexander, MD of Denver, Col., Mapra Kathleen Gentry of Houston, Texas, Elizabeth Jeanne Stratton of Bentonville, Dr. Eldon Lawrence Alexander of Seal Beach, Calif., Julia Isabelle Smith of Fairview, Tenn., Steven Bradshaw Alexander of Benton, Pam Klaus of St. Louis, Mo., Lynne Newton of Minneapolis, Minn.; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, James Woodard; three sisters, Sarah Gipson, Helen Ashley and Thelma Ashley, and a grandson, James David Alexander.

The funeral was held at 10 a.m. Friday at Roller-Swift Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jim Stone officiating. Burial was at Ermen Cemetery in Osceola.
