James Gordon "Jimmy" Blankenship, Jr. - Monette

James Gordon "Jimmy" Blankenship, Jr., 74, of Monette, died Friday, Dec. 28, 2001, at his residence. He was retired from Blankenship Hardware and Furniture, a member of the Monette First United Methodist Church, certified Lay Speaker of the First United Methodist Church and a member of the United Methodist Men. He earned a Bachelor Degree in Arts and English at the Southwestern College in Memphis, Tenn. (now Rhodes College). He was an active volunteer at the Monette Senior Citizens and active in the nursing home ministry, a member of the Monette Cemetery Association Board, member of the fine Arts Council of Arkansas and Craighead County.

He is survived by several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James G. and Mary Blankenship.

The funeral was held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Monette First United Methodist Church with Rev. Gary Wiles and Rev. Sam Long officiating. Burial was in the Monette Cemetery with Gregg Funeral Home of Monette in charge.

Pallbearers were Jodie, Jerry Reed, gene Gathright, Sonny Wimberly, David Harrell, and Bud Cannon. Honorary pallbearers were Lloyd Miller, Steve McGuire, Bud Hill, Bob Blankenship, Harry M. Adams, Sr., Raymond Miller, Joe Cullum, Everett Isom, Lee Spurlock, DeVane Baldridge, Jim York, Robert Flannigan, and Russell Strickland.

The family requests anyone wishing to leave a lasting memorial consider the First United Methodist Church in Monette for World Hunger Fund, and James G. Blankenship Scholarship at the Buffalo Island Central High School.
