BPD has new street crimes unit

In the April 13 meeting, the Blytheville Fire and Police committee introduced the city’s new street crimes unit led by Sgt. John Caruthers and officer Deadrick Colley. Special Agent Bobby Ephlin detailed the purpose and position of this unit in minimizing the amount of crime in Blytheville. Manila man arrested on drug charges

On April 13, the Mississippi County Sheriff's Department Street Crimes Unit, along with the Manila Police Department, went to the Steven Hamilton residence located on Highway 18 in Manila. “During a search of the residence officers found 80.5 grams of methamphetamine, baggies, pipe used for smoking methamphetamine and digital scales,” a MCSD press release reads. “Mr. Hamilton was transported to the Mississippi County Detention Center.”...

BIC considering four-day school week

During Tuesday evening’s meeting, Buffalo Island Central School board discussed the lifting of the mask mandate by Gov. Asa Hutchinson and the possibility of a four-day school week. Gov. Pirates split doubleheader with Piggott

The Gosnell Pirates (10-11, 6-4) split a doubleheader April 15 with the Piggott Mohawks (15-8, 7-7) in a battle for conference positioning. In the opening contest, the Pirates fell 3-2 on a nail-biting finish. Down 3-2 with two outs and a runner on third, Gosnell was in prime position to extend the game. The Pirates went on to get the hit they needed form Brayden Burcham, but the base-runner stumbled on his way home, giving the Mohawks the time they needed to secure the out and win the game...

Thursday’s Blytheville-Osceola baseball game in Osceola was canceled. The Chicks are next scheduled to travel to Trumann on Tuesday. Their next home game is Monday, April 26 when they host Pocahontas.
