Gosnell High School's road to the 2012 State 4A Playoffs ended in the same place it did in 2011.

The Armorel Tigers fell inches short of winning their conference opener Friday night. Trailing by three points with under 20 seconds to play, three-point attempts from Seth Eatmon and Zack Gray bounced off of the rim and the visiting Weiner Cardinals escaped with a 44-41 win on Armorel's homecoming night.

Mrs. Pauline Smith, 80, of Dyess, died Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012, in Kuttawa, Ky.

Lanson Blake Melvin, 84, of Arbyrd, Mo., died Friday, Nov. 9, 2012, at the Monette Manor Nursing Center in Monette.

Robert Lewis Davison, 78, of Manila, died Thursday Nov. 8, 2012, at St. Bernards Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro.

Phyllis Lois Brown, 56, of Trumann, died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012, in Jonesboro.

The local charity Ignite's "Boxes of Love" project for Christmas 2012 has officially begun, and individuals and groups have until the first of December to contribute.

Blytheville is one of only 12 communities around the state to earn the 2012 Arkansas Volunteer Community of the Year Award.

This year's community Veterans Day ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. Monday on the south courthouse lawn in Blytheville.
