Mr. Garlen Edvon Self, 60, of Blytheville, passed from this life Friday, Aug. 3, 2012, at his home.

Addison Lela Ainsworth, newborn, died Saturday, August 4, 2012, at Crittenden Memorial Hospital in West Memphis.

This column is going to be boring. I apologize in advance. It's boring because all I'm going to do is talk about my recent vacation to Colorado. I'm not sure how much folks want to read about my vacation, but I've still got Rocky Mountain air in my brain, so it's pretty much all I can think about these days.

Volunteers gathered at Pathway Ministries Tuesday night to help distribute schools supplies in roughly 1,000 backpacks that will be handed out to students at the Third Annual Back-to-School Bash on Sunday, Aug. 19.

The Arts Council of Mississippi County is looking for bands to sign up for its next Support Live Music presentation. Bands wanting to sign up must do so no later than Friday, Aug. 24.

The city of Blytheville's two road department employees were terminated Tuesday morning by new Public Works director Marvin Crawford.

It's "Media Week" around the local area with both Gosnell and Blytheville hosting Media Day sessions.

Blytheville City Council's Street and Sewer Committee, headed by Stan Parks, is reviewing a new street repair technique which could save the city money on the frequent road repairs being made necessary by the summer's dry weather conditions.
