Smith, a 2005 graduate of BHS and a former player at the University of Central Arkansas and Henderson State, has been a wide receiver and special teams coach the past two seasons at Obion County Central (Tenn.). He also assisted in offensive game planning and play calling for an offense which put up record numbers both seasons and won 15 games, including its first playoff win in many years. ...

The search for a new head football coach at Blytheville high school appears to be coming to an end. Blytheville athletic director, David Hixson, said Tuesday morning, "Negotiations are going on almost as we speak. We've got talks going on and are trying to work out the details."...

Mrs. Jolene Hulsey Hanna, 75, of Luxora, passed from this life Monday, June 25, 2012, at St. Bernard's Medical Center in Jonesboro.

So keeping them busy in a positive way can change how they feel, think or act toward issues in their lives, along with real family training and values that are positive...

The American Cancer Society's Relay for Life Survivor Chairmen want to thank everyone that came out and supported our precious survivors. It was a beautiful night that truly gave "hope" that a cure for this cruel disease can be found. We wish to give special thanks to the following people and groups that donated time and money to make the night very special for the survivors: Harry Meyers for the barbecue, Cobb funeral Home for the water and balloons, Beth Fitzgerald for the beautiful cake, the Relay teams for items for the "goodie bags," the FFA students and Nucor scholarship winners for stuffing the bags and doing anything else they were asked to do, the Cars and Cycles for a Cure, and especially to Linda Peterson, Relay chairman, for the great job she did to make the Relay a success.. ...

It is fitting that last Friday marked the 40th anniversary of Title IX -- the landmark legislation which, among other things, paved the way for schools and universities across the United States to start up girls sports teams.

The Mississippi County Senior Citizen Center and an archeological site south of Highway 61 will both be on the receiving end of additional county funding, following action by the Mississippi County Quorum Court Tuesday night.

The Act 2! community theater group will be holding open auditions for "Pinocchio," from 6-8 p.m. Thursday and Friday and from 2-4 p.m. Saturday at the Ritz Theater in Blytheville.

Blytheville's temporary 1-cent sales and use tax is scheduled to begin on Sunday, but as of Tuesday afternoon, the Internal Revenue Service hasn't accepted the tax as the city's repayment method for the multimillion dollar payroll tax debt.

The recent shake up of football coaches at Blytheville and Gosnell over the past two and a half weeks has definitely threw a wrench into the late Spring season around this area. Just following graduations and right before summer workouts get into full swing, a school usually has their Fall coaching positions in order...
