GOSNELL -- With 1:55 to play in the first half Thursday night, the Valley View Lady Blazers led by 17 over the Gosnell Lady Pirates. Gosnell scored the last six points of the half, thanks to back-to-back three-pointers from Shanice McClain and Deneisha McBride, and took that momentum into the third period. Eventually, the Lady Pirates erased the deficit and finally pulled out a thrilling, 59-57, double-overtime win over the second place team in the 3-4A...

"Senior Night" festivities will follow the junior high game followed by the senior high contest. The Pirates (14-9, 6-6 3-4A) are currently in 6th place in the 3-4A with two games to play. The Pirates can finish as high as fourth or as low as sixth. A win tonight will go along way for the fourth spot in the district tournament with a game at Trumann on Tuesday to close out league play...

The Blytheville Chickasaws start the second half of the 5A-East season tonight against Beebe at Chickasaw Gym. The Chicks (10-11, 2-5 5A-East) hope to start the second half a little better than the first half started. Beebe defeated the Chicks a month ago, 46-26, thanks to a major scoring drought for the Chicks...

Mr. Willie Lawrence Davis, 85, longtime Leachville resident, passed from this life late Thursday, Feb. 2, 2012, at the Greene Acres Nursing Center in Paragould.
