Mrs. Florence Louella Smith, a resident of West Memphis, departed this life Thursday, June 23, 2011, in West Memphis at the age of 85.

Mrs. Earline J. Huey of Rogers, formerly of Blytheville, passed away Thursday, June 16, 2011, in Rogers at the age of 98.

Blytheville's Historic District Commission will soon benefit from an $8,700 grant awarded to Main Street Blytheville from the Main Street Arkansas organization.

The Blytheville Police Department recently put five new 2011 Dodge Chargers into service.

The renovation project of Johnny Cash's boyhood home and the administration building of the Dyess Colony could bring in as much as $7 million a year in tourist income once the project is completed.

Work is continuing on the installation of a boat ramp on the Mississippi River at Barfield Landing, at the end of Arkansas Highway 18 east.

My Dear Sweet Sainted Wife couldn't stand our dogs running wild all over the Deer Run property and campground (up at Van Buren, Mo.); even though they would never hurt anybody, they are still stupid and clumsy and always ready to grab a free snack if it's available.
